What to do before starting an HY72 Engine

Hi All,

What should I do before starting our HY72 engine?

It's been sitting 4 1/2 years but ran fine when parked.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

first remove the spark plugs and put a small amount of oil into each hole. then put the plugs back in. when the hy sits for too long the fuel will drain back out of the lines, so you want to make sure the lines are primed with fuel. full charge on the battery, use the choke and just keep turning it over. sometimes i use starter fluid too.

also: dont hold the gas pedal to the floor but rather pump it. or better yet just use the choke and dont touch it, it will take a few moments for the carbs to fill up again. there is a weep hole for excess fuel to come out of. i know it sounds crazy . but the HY was designed with a small port at the base of the intake manifold that is designed to prevent raw unburned fuel from damaging the cilinders, so it just runs down the side of the motor, dont let this alarm you, its french! its not a leak that needs to be fixed. there should also be a pan beneath it to collect the fuel.

I've heard that I need to put oil into the water pump?

How fast should an HY72 go? It's a 1966 HY plateau.

there is a zirc fitting at the top of the water pump, but its not necessary to oil it more than once a year. the top speed is 56mph , this is not a fast vehicle , its basically a tractor with heat.
